Tarik Robinson (aka Teekay) is the emcee of Dragon Fli Empire. He was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia to Jamaican university students. His family moved to Calgary shortly afterwards and he was raised in the Stampede City. He developed a passion early for creating beats on a Yamaha keyboard in the early ‘90s and started recording rhymes over them at his house while in high school. Encouraged by positive feedback and constructive criticism, he continued to hone his craft. After a demo release by an earlier group he was part of caught the attention of local producer and fellow Aberhart High alumnus DJ Cosm, the two started collaborating, eventually forming as the Dragon Fli Empire crew in 2002, receiving numerous accolades. 

Robinson attended Mount Royal University in Calgary, and graduated with a Journalism degree in 2004. He has written for several publications on the hip hop scene, and has interviewed artists like Del tha Funkee Homosapien and Gift of Gab from Blackalicious. He is a producer as well, having made beats for Dragon Fli Empire and other various artists. He was also involved in the 2006 Alberta playRITES festival in Calgary as part of the collaborative theater production “Diplomatic Immunities”, which involved a team of artists from various disciplines creating an interactive, multimedia-heavy performance exploring issues such as class, race and mortality.
